If a company concludes that the specific use of a sweetener is GRAS, they may submit their information to the FDA through the FDA’s GRAS Notification Program. Under the law, certain ingredients do not require pre-market food additive approval by FDA, for example, if they are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by qualified experts. To market a new food additive or before using a food additive in a different way than how the FDA has currently approved it, a manufacturer or other sponsor must first seek approval from the FDA by submitting a food additive petition. Under its legal authorities, the FDA administers pre-market regulatory programs that assist companies in meeting their obligations. Companies are responsible for ensuring the regulatory status and safety of the ingredients in their products before marketing. Consumers can identify whether a product has a sweetener by looking for the sweetener’s name in the ingredient list on the product label.īy law, like all other ingredients added to food in the U.S., sweeteners must be safe for consumption. Sweeteners are widely used in foods and beverages marketed as "sugar-free" or "diet," including baked goods, soft drinks, powdered drink mixes, candy, puddings, canned foods, jams and jellies, dairy products, and many other foods and beverages. For example, sweeteners contribute only a few or no calories to the diet and generally will not raise blood sugar levels. People may choose to use sweeteners instead of sugar for various reasons. Some sweeteners are much sweeter than table sugar, and smaller amounts are needed to achieve the same level of sweetness as sugar in food. Sweeteners or sugar substitutes, such as aspartame, sucralose, and stevia derived substances, are ingredients used to sweeten and in some cases enhance the flavor of foods.

The story revolves around The Tome of Eternal Darkness, a mysterious book found in the home of Alexandra Roivas’ murdered grandfather. A decidedly M-rated horror game, Eternal Darkness is played through multiple third-person perspectives with branching storylines. It feels like a miracle that it launched as a GameCube exclusive in 2002. We’re hoping the Prime Trilogy comes to Switch, as well, but who knows if that’ll ever happen.Įternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, remarkably, was originally in development for Nintendo 64. Seriously, play this game if you haven’t already, especially with a fourth game coming to Nintendo Switch. Smart controls, powers that feel like joys to discover and even greater to use, and all of the novel atmosphere that put Metroid on the map, made Prime an absolute triumph. Somehow, Retro and Nintendo managed to convert this model to 3D without it ever feeling repetitive. Remarkably, Prime captured the essence of what made 2D Metroid games so great - an open world that is retraced repeatedly as you gain new powers. We’re placing it in the action-adventure category of our list, however, as it leans heavily on exploring its intoxicating landscape for new secrets, abilities, and baddies to blast into smithereens. No one could have expected that Metroid’s jump to 3D would prove to be one of the greatest games of all time, especially considering that Retro Studios created Metroid Prime as a first-person shooter. With Resident Evil 2 and 3 already getting remakes, it’s likely we could see a full remake in the future for this game, as well. Resident Evil 4 is now available on the go courtesy of the Nintendo Switch. Resident Evil 4 remains an influential game today and outside of Nintendo-developed games, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better GameCube game. From the frightening monsters to the epic boss battles, to the over-the-shoulder shooting mechanics, to the non-linear, spooky environments. Everything about Resident Evil 4 impressed. Naturally, the cult had turned even more sinister, so players had to spend their time watching their backs and shooting zombies. The game followed police officer Leon Kennedy on a mission to Spain to rescue the President’s daughter from a cult. While it did launch on the system first, it came to a slew of other consoles afterward. With this method, there's very little your opponent can do to reclaim the ball. It’s still shocking that Resident Evil 4, one of the greatest action games of all time, was initially supposed to only appear on GameCube. Now just pass it to the nearest teammate and repeat the process. Eventually, your opponent will attempt to run and steal the ball from you, but the moment they do, the goalie will tackle them and steal the ball back. Once you're in the lead, retreat to your goal box and push right up against the goalie (do this slowly, otherwise he'll grab the ball from you.) Now just wait. First the hard part: Make sure you're ahead of your opponent by at least one point, if not, using this tactic will be futile. This isn't so much an advanced skill as it is a tactic to all but guarantee your victory. Please use it against the computer only, as it's simply not fair, nor fun, to use against human opponents. Note: This tactic is powerful - perhaps too powerful. Please consult the character pages for these characters to find out how to score using dekes: While technically, the ball doesn't have to be powered up to score, it generally makes things much easier. Speaking of powering up dekes, several players can use this ability to easily score goals on the goalie, without even shooting the ball. For example, Dry Bone's usual Deke warps him a few feet in any direction, but if you perform it while the ball is glowing white, his distance triples! Score! Dekes Goals Alright, so you already know about Dekes and Power Charges, but did you know you can combine the two? Some player's Dekes, such as Boo and Dry Bones, actually improve depending on how charged up the ball is. Spending too much time providing updates to higher-ups? It also means Cosmos DB is gradually becoming Azure’s unified hyperscale database platform. It means that Cosmos DB for PostgreSQL will now be the Citus distributed Postgres option. In fact, Microsoft told me that “all customers and workloads will automatically move to Azure Cosmos DB for PostgreSQL.” That’s a big deal. Cosmos DB for PostgreSQL will replace Azure Database for PostgreSQL - Hyperscale. There’s one more piece to this story that’s very interesting. But Kumar said, “we are working on further enhancing and adding more and more capabilities.” He also told me Cosmos for Postgres users will get the same service level agreements (SLAs) that are extended to all Cosmos DB customers. While Kumar said “today we basically support globally distributed read semantics,” there are some other customary Cosmos features that Cosmos DB for Postgres won’t get, at least initially. full query consistency, and not the “eventual consistency” model supported in many NoSQL platforms, nor even the sliding scale consistency offered within the other Cosmos DB interfaces. The use of the Citus engine also means full support for Postgres’ SQL dialect and, given the relational nature of the database, full ACID compliance - i.e. Kumar said PostGIS will indeed be supported, as will several others, prioritized based “on their usage.” I asked about one in particular - PostGIS, a very popular geospatial database extension for Postgres. Of course, since Cosmos DB is a managed platform, the extensions actually made available will be the ones Microsoft chooses. That also means compatibility with the broad array of Postgres extensions will be present as well. That was important because, you know, if you take the Postgres engine and you change it up completely then, well, it’s not Postgres anymore.” Kumar added: “We really liked their approach of using the extensibility model of Postgres to maintain compat while enabling… a database that underneath the covers was sharded.” (Sharding is a foundational technique in scaling out and partitioning databases across multiple servers.) Kumar went on to explain that what attracted Microsoft to Citus was that “they were not really giving up on compatibility with Postgres. First off, according to Kumar, this is “actually the Postgres engine” and not merely a compatibility layer. There are some ramifications here that are important to take stock of. Maybe that’s why it’s called Cosmos DB for PostgreSQL, and not the other way around. All of those options essentially present different language/wire protocol/API combinations around the same core technology, while the Postgres option offers a completely different query engine. That makes the Cosmos/Postgres offering unlike any of the Cosmos API options, be it Core SQL, Azure Table storage for key-value access, MongoDB for document store applications, Gremlin for graph database workloads, or Cassandra for wide column store implementations. “We… have taken the distributed query processing engine of Citus… and effectively have that overlaid on top of Cosmos DB,” Kumar said. To cut to the chase: Kumar explained Azure Cosmos DB for PostgreSQL (a Microsoft product name if ever there were one) is a mashup of sorts, with Cosmos DB laying the infrastructural foundation and Microsoft’s distributed PostgreSQL engine, obtained when it acquired Citus Data in 2019, on top. TNS spoke with Rohan Kumar, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President, Azure Data, about the announcement and got some interesting architectural details. 18, with content on strategy, concepts and how-to, for the new Postgres offering. For folks who want to drill down even further, the Cosmos DB team told me it’s hosting a two-hour online event on Oct. I’ll cover the news in some technical depth here. Microsoft says it also makes Azure the first cloud platform to support both relational and NoSQL options on the same service. While Cosmos already supported a number of interfaces and APIs for NoSQL database technologies, this announcement marks the first time a true relational database solution is being offered on the platform. At its Ignite conference in Seattle today, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced new PostgreSQL support for Azure Cosmos DB. Most transfer cases allow the front wheels to be disengaged and spin freely during normal driving conditions. This gearbox divides the transmission power output between the rear differential and the front differential. Transfer Cases are found on four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles. filling the differential with manufacturer recommended type and quantity of new fluidĬalling All 4×4 and All-Wheel Drivers…Jiffy Lube Transfer Case Service is Just For You!.Fluids can also become contaminated with water. In addition, small particles of metal and clutch material may come off as they wear and these particles can mix with the fluid. Heat, pressure, and friction can slowly breakdown the additives in the differential fluid. Four-wheel drive vehicles have a separate differential for each pair of wheels, connected through a transfer case.ĭifferential fluid provides lubrication to gears, bearings, shafts, and other internal components. The differential is located between the two wheels and is attached to each wheel by an axle shaft. When a vehicle makes a turn, the outer wheel has to turn faster than the inner wheel, due to the difference in the length of the paths they take. The differential is the mechanical component that spins both the left and right wheels but lets them rotate at different speeds so that the vehicle can make turns. The Jiffy Lube Differential Service replaces the old, depleted fluid with new, manufacturer-recommended fluid that provides better protection for this important mechanical system. If your differential stops working, you stop going! The differential fluid’s job is to lubricate gears, bearings, and shafts in this system. When your wheels are turning in the Indianapolis area or Northern Indiana, your car’s differential is hard at work adjusting for the different paths of the inside and outside wheels so that undue slippage doesn’t occur. The “new cave” is part of a modern multimedia experience at the Lascaux Centre International de l’Art Pariétal in Montignac. It’s a half-hour drive north of Sarlat, or you can take a tour from Sarlat to the cave and other prehistoric sites in the region. The original cave, which was discovered in 1940, had to be closed to the public to preserve the paintings. But the paintings have been painstakingly recreated so that visitors can see just what it was like. No one quite knows exactly why or how Paleolithic people created art on the walls and ceiling of the cave. Experts believe they built their own scaffolding to create a sanctuary. The 2,000-year Prehistoric paintings in the Lascaux Cave are a Dordogne must-see. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the paintings are considered to be masterpieces of stone age art. These iconic châteaux were not built for protection but as elegant retreats for the nobility of Paris. To the north, the castles of the Loire Valley were ornate, graceful structures built to impress. In the Middle Ages, Dordogne was an important area of conflict between France and England: the famous Hundred’s Year War (1337 to 1453) between the House of Plantagenet (rulers of the Kingdom of England) and the House of Valois over the right to rule the Kingdom of France.
